Wheeler, M. (2005). Reconstructing the cognitive world: The next step. MIT Press.

Special Section: Is Cognitive Science Changing its Mind?: Introduction to Embodied Embedded Cognition and Neurophenomenology
Tjeerd van de Laar & Herman de Regt

Embodied embedded cognition (EEC) and neurophenomenology (NP) are slowly invading cognitive (neuro)science. We provide a short introduction of what EEC and NP are about and an overview of the papers in this special section on EEC and NP...

“a paradigm change in cognitive science. A lot of work remains to be done,
but we think that cognitive sccience will eventually change its mind." (p. 294)

“ We put forth a new guiding metaphor of the role of the brain in cognitive behavior to replace the current cognitivist metaphor of the brain as an information-processing device." ...

“we question the very assumption that cognizing is something that the brain does."... "cognitive states are best explained by a physical system of interacting components( 몸, 환경 등), where the brain is only one such component. In other words, the brain is best viewed not as a commander or director of behavior, but rather as only one of the players among equally important others (i.e., the body and the world). As a result, according to EEC, in great number of cases, higher cognitive functions cannot be directly mapped onto brain structures."
